“An environment that nurtures the growth of your child ”
It is our goal here at the St. Stephens Creative Learning Center to prepare your son or daughter for a successful beginning in school. Our students have positive interaction with their teachers in and out of the classroom. We offer an environment that nurtures growth of your child through self-discipline and the development of acceptable social skills. Children also are given a foundation in:
• Scientific thoughts
This is done through the use of computers, phonics, arts and crafts, creative movement, indoor and outdoor play, field trips, and guest speakers from various fields such as art, drama, music, and science.
DAILY ACTIVITY REPORTS
When you pick up your child, you receive a Daily Activity Report that highlights what your child did that day. The teacher will also record how long your child napped, how much lunch your child ate and how well your child is doing with potty training. The teacher always writes a note about a special moment of your child’s day.
We also offer regularly scheduled conferences throughout the year to discuss children’s progress and behaviors with their parents. School teachers provide tips and insights to guide parents through learning and developmental milestones.
Creative Learning Center
Maryland excels achievement
The St. Stephens Creative Learning Center has achieved a Maryland EXCELS check level 1 rating by the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE).
Maryland EXCELS is the state’s Quality Rating and Improvement System that awards ratings to child care and public pre-kindergarten programs that meet increasingly higher standards in key areas that are identified nationally as contributing to high quality.
Through a process of continuous quality improvement, Maryland EXCELS programs meet rigorous quality standards over and above those required by State licensing regulations and public school requirements. The Maryland EXCELS standards include Licensing and Compliance, Staffing and Professional Development, Rating Scales and Accreditation, Developmentally Appropriate Learning and Practice and Administrative Policies and Practices. The Maryland EXCELS website is www.MarylandExcels.org
Each Child is Unique
We recognize that each child is unique and should be treated with respect as an individual. We help our children feel successful by allowing them to learn at their own pace. We encourage children to explore the world around them, to understand and feel good about themselves, and learn to care deeply about all the people who make up their life.
Preparing for the future
In addition to traditional learning centers, and art materials, each class has access to technology with several highly-rated, non-violent, creative, educational (and fun!) games. Considering the ever growing prevalence of these multi-use tools in schools at all levels, we feel that any healthy exposure to them, even if only for a few minutes a day, will prepare our young people for the future.
